"The Inglenook of the Artist"
in·gle·nook
-
1.) A nook or corner beside an open fireplace.
2.) A bench, especially either of two facing benches,
placed in a nook or corner beside a fireplace.
So what's one more cliché in
the world going to do? -Just imagine a bunch of hippies all sitting
in a huddle, sipping coffee and Kahlua, talking about how the would
could be made a better place... Sounds magnificent, doesn't it?
Well, keep that picture in mind, and you'll be somewhat close to
what "Inglenook of the Artist" on CVN is going to be all
about.
Some Calvin students may have noticed how our
campus tends to have an almost "inward-looking" gaze as
tend not to venture much outside of our potentially "bubble"
world of Calvin life. This new show on CVN was created in an attempt
to dissolve those boundaries we experience between campus-dwelling
and real-world life; but more specifically, it attempts this through
Art.
There may be some who don't feel like they can
understand art these days, and I sympathize with you. The fine arts
lately do tend to confuse even the most open-minded elites. But
it is this videographer's belief that Art (in a very broad sense)
should not be left to the freaks and weirdos alone. It is still
a very powerful and active force within our community and very much
alive within our culture as a whole.
Join me, Chad Terpstra, as I put on my brave pants
and step off campus to explore the art world of Grand Rapids, one
week at a time. Enjoy. |
